A bit about me..
Alison J Gilbert – Contemporary Abstract Painter
Working from my studio in the depths of Somerset in rural England.
I have always been a creative, originally studying for a degree in textile design. I worked as a fashion buyer before retraining in interior design. This background and experience influences my preoccupation with colour, pattern and texture. I have been painting exclusively now for over ten years, creating entirely intuitively. Inspiration can be a mood or feeling, a memory, a place, a colour palette, and/or sometimes a symbol or motif. I am often inspired by the power of a word or a phrase. This may sometimes be incorporated in the finished piece in the form of visible or abstracted text.
I love to create work that makes a bold visual statement when viewed as a whole, but that also has richly layered surfaces full of depth and visual interest when viewed close up.
From time to time, I blog about current projects, things that inspire me, and I give a sneak peek into my process behind the scenes in my studio. Materials
All artworks are created using professional quality materials, and originals are supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
Canvases are gallery wrapped typically with a depth of either 2cm or 4.5cm (1 1/2″) for a contemporary finish.
Smaller pieces on canvas or wood panels are usually supplied in an unglazed frame, which may be customised on request.
All artworks except those on paper, are finished with a coat of matt or satin finish varnish, or are waxed for protection.
All canvases can be supplied framed, options are available on request.
Unless described as mounted, works on paper and also fine art prints are supplied in a tube, rolled.
